About RopeBreak.net
A pro wrestling fan site and database. It crawls and scrapes promotion sites, broadcaster sites and news sites, and it writes down where every single detail came from.
Three rules
- Everything cites a source. Every field of every record carries the page it was read from, when it was read, and the text that supports it. On an event page, the [1] markers lead to the sources list.
- Nothing is assumed. If a source hasn't announced a start time, the field stays empty and the calendar shows an all-day entry. Reruns are never listed; only first-run broadcasts make the calendar.
- Each instance is looked up individually. A weekly show is not copied forward from last week. Each episode is a record of its own, cited on its own.
The broadcast calendar
A calendar of upcoming broadcasts so you know when and how to watch wrestling on TV or online. It is not a ticketing or live-event calendar. Subscribe from Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook or any CalDAV client; every entry links to its event page here.
Rosters
Each promotion's roster, as its own website lists it: who is on it, the stats the promotion states (hometown, height, weight, signature move, records), current champions, tag teams and stables. Every change is logged with the page it was seen on, from the second crawl onwards.
News
Headlines from the outlets we follow, the promotions' own news and press releases, podcasts, video channels and event results, each linking to the original. Roster names found in a headline become "who's mentioned", and the 30-day ranking shows who is in the news most. Everything is also published as an RSS feed.
No copyrighted text or media
Nothing written by a promotion or broadcaster is reproduced here: no biographies, previews or photos. Pages link to the official source instead. Wrestler photos come only from Wikimedia Commons under free licences (CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC0, public domain) and always carry the author credit and licence.
Covered promotions
WWE, AEW, ROH, TNA and NWA. More to follow.
How it is built
Django and django-admin, the rb-scraper crawling plugin, and the rb-bootstrap theme. All major features work without JavaScript. A small script registers an offline cache so the site can be installed to an iPhone or Android home screen.
Scrapers never write to the database directly. They post claims ("wwe.com says Raw on 20 October starts at 8:00 PM ET") to an internal claims API, which resolves them into records and records the citation.
iPhone: open this site in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
Android / desktop Chrome: use the browser's Install app option.
The calendar and any event page you have opened keep working offline.
